Forest Management Activities in Northwestern Ontario This site was developed by NWOPA in conjunction with MNR and MNDM to make information about forest management planning in northwestern Ontario available to the mineral sector. Every year, each Sustainable Forest License (SFL) holder works with MNR to prepare an Annual Work Schedule (AWS) for its Forest Management Unit (FMU), as required by the Crown Forest Sustainability Act. In an effort to help make prospectors and developers aware of these ongoing forest industry activities NWOPA has arranged to have maps made available for viewing online. The maps illustrate areas where the following activities are scheduled to take place: harvesting and tending (such as site preparation, planting and tendering, slash pile burning and aerial and ground applications of herbicides); road construction; and road and water crossing removals. The first three activities are shown on maps covering entire FMUs, while the sites identified for road and water crossing removals are shown on detailed site maps. The key map shows the three Regional Resident Geological districts in northwest Ontario, with the corresponding numbered FMUs. Click on an FMU to view the list of PDF maps illustrating the work planned within the unit for the upcoming year and contact information for the MNR and SFL plan authors for each FMU. If maps are not yet available, contact one of the plan authors for more information. Users of this site should be aware that SFL holders may make amendments to their AWS as required by operational circumstances. Since these amendments will not be identified on this site, interested parties should contact the plan authors to confirm that they have the most up-to-date information, and to advise the plan authors of their area of interest within the FMU. Select a FMU from the map below. Areas with red numbering is unavailable at this time. Hold your mouse over the FMUs to see the name. A list is also available below the map.
